Wills

Pink Blossom

Making a Will is essential if you want to ensure your loved ones are provided for and your wishes are followed after your death, but every family is different and deciding on what to do can be a stressful and difficult process for many people. It is vital that a Will is drawn correctly; otherwise, there can be serious (and expensive) consequences.

Without a Will, your assets on death will pass according to the Intestacy Rules, and will result in the law automatically determining who will inherit your estate and look after your children.  It also makes it more difficult for your relatives to realise your assets on death if you haven’t made proper provision in the form of a Will.

How do I make a Will?

The first step is a meeting with you to discuss your ideas. Using my knowledge and experience, I advise and direct you to a few simple options. Once objectives are agreed, I draft the Will and liaise with you to refine it until it accords with your wishes. I provide detailed advice before finalising the document.

I can guide you through the entire process to give you peace of mind that your affairs will be managed properly and appropriately after your death.

I consider in detail your objectives and family relationships to draft a Will that achieves maximum flexibility with making provision for those you wish to benefit.

I can advise on making a Will for those on second or later marriages, those with stepchildren, cohabiting partners or those estranged from their children.

Wills often form a critical part of inheritance tax and estate planning for you and your family. They can be drafted to achieve maximum tax efficiency and flexibility with protection and controls built in.

Other people whose affairs are more simple and straightforward require only simple Wills and I draft these too without all the legalese and jargon. It is essential for everyone to make a Will, even if you consider yourself to have few assets.

It is likely that your personal circumstances will change over time, whether materially, or through marriage, divorce or the death of a family member. I recommend that you review your Will at regular intervals and in the wake of any significant events. This also enables you to make any necessary alterations in the light of changes to the law, and to ensure your Will is kept up to date with your wishes.

I can also visit you in the comfort of your own home at no extra cost, please get in touch.
